DURHAM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) - North Carolina Central University bowling junior Toria Silver has been named as the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for February 2010, sponsored by The Banks Law Firm.
The Durham, N.C. native made her name known during the last two tournaments of the season. Silver led the Eagles with a season-high 238 game against Bethune-Cookman and a total pinfall of 1162 during the 2010 South Carolina State Bulldog Classic on Feb. 13-14.
To conclude the season for the Eagles, Silver led the Eagles during each round of team play, acquiring a total pinfall of 966 (193.2 avg.) with a high game of 209 pinfall. Silver's impressive performance put her in eighth place out of 166 student-athletes to earn All-Tournament Team honors (second team) during the 2010 Morgan State Collegiate Classic on Feb. 21.
"Toria's dedication and determination to improve her bowling has really paid off," said NCCU head bowling coach Karen Sanford. "She brings fire and spirit to the team. She keeps the ladies pumped up. In doing so, the name `Cheer Coach' has been bestowed upon her."
Silver is an education major and intends to work with infants and toddlers.
She is the daughter of Ricky and Victoria Silver. She comes to NCCU from the Josephine Dobbs Clement Early College High School housed on the NCCU campus. In her spare time she enjoys shopping.
