DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University Eagles will hit the road for their final match of the season, facing Delaware State University on Friday, Nov. 12 in Dover, Del. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
The Hornets and the Eagles meet for the second time this season. The two programs met in August for the Hilton RTP/NCCU Volleyball Tournament. By the conclusion of the match, NCCU defeated DSU in a thrilling four-set match by scores of 22-25, 25-11, 37-35, 25-16.
With the progression of the season and the development of the Eagles’ play, NCCU head coach Georgette Crawford-Crooks will look to four student-athletes to carry the team to a win; senior Belinda Behncke-Biney, junior Sashalee Wallen, and freshmen Jzima-Malaki Kalao and Kalin Russell.
Outside hitter Behncke-Biney enters the last game of her career leading the Eagles with 401 kills and 47 services aces. Middle hitter Wallen maintains the blocking game for NCCU, assisting on 86 blocks and holding her own with 17 solo blocks. The Kingston, Jamaica native follows Behncke-Biney in the serving game with 32 aces this season.
Sustaining the offensive success for the Eagles’ has been Kalao. The 5-10 setter has amassed 401 assists, while playing stellar defense to accumulate 186 digs.
NCCU’s Russell has had a breakout season, collecting 87 kills and earning 66 block assists.
The Hornets enter the match 14-11 overall, 7-2 in MEAC play and 4-0 during home competition.
The maroon and grey travel to Delaware with a record of 9-24 and 3-8 for away contests.
