DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University women’s volleyball team will host the 2009 defending MEAC champion, the Rattlers of Florida A&M University on Friday, Oct. 29 in the LeRoy T. Walker Physical Education and Recreation Complex on the campus of NCCU. The first set of the match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., admission is free.
The maroon and grey enter the match, following a triumphant come from behind five-set win over Norfolk State.
Senior Belinda Behncke-Biney leads the Eagles offense with 351 kills on the season. The outside hitter also commands the NCCU serving game with 38 service aces.
Eagles’ freshman setter Jzima-Malaki Kalao has kept the offense flowing with 781 assists, for an average of 7.66 assists per set.
Defensively for NCCU, junior Sashalee Wallen dominates the net with 92 total blocks, 17 solo blocks and 75 block assists.
Maintaining the Eagles’ passing game is junior Raven King. The 5-3 defensive specialist has amassed 281 digs on the season.
FAMU (6-12) travels to the Bull City coming off of two loses, a five-set loss to South Carolina State and a four-set loss to Mercer.
In the 3-2 loss to South Carolina State, Katherine Huanec hit 43-percent from the floor to earn one of the top performance honors for the MEAC Volleyball Weekly Honors.
Currently, the Eagles record is 7-22.
