Question: Why did you choose NCCU?
Daran Gill: “The athletic program seemed like a good fit for me.”

Q: What is your warm-up routine before a performance?
DG: “In general, I jog about five to ten minutes followed by 15 minutes of stretching. Then some dynamic drills, a couple of sprint-outs about three (two with flats and one with spikes). After that, I sit down and get some fluids in my body. As I am sitting down, I visualize my race, its different phases and focus on the parts of my race when I get weak and need to talk to myself.”

Q: What fires your emotions?
DG: “The atmosphere of competition. Every time I go out there to run, I remember I am getting paid to do it, so I treat it like a job. And the fact that I have someone competing next to me.”

Q: What would you say is your style of dress?
DG: “I would say my style of dress is Caribbean-like, casual fitted clothing. I like to be color coordinated, usually earth tone colors.”

Q: What type of food do you cook best?
DG: “Curry chicken and white rice.”

Q: What is a perfect day to you?
DG: “A perfect day would be to wake up and not feel tired. Also to have the sun shining, have all my close friends and family alive; lying in the bed watching Smallville all day.”

Q: What is your most embarrassing moment?
DG: “I was at the movies with a girlfriend and I spilled my drink while walking up the stairs.”

Q: If you could one person for a day, who would you choose?
DG: “President Barrack Obama.”

Q: When are you at your happiest?
DG: “Whenever I am with my mom, little brother and sister, I am happiest. They’re my world.”

Q: What do you miss most about your hometown?
DG: “I miss the beaches, a cool island breeze and my friends.”

Q: What is your favorite television show?
DG: “Smallville. The show is based on a superhero, an individual with extraordinary abilities, which he uses to help people. Smallville makes Superman look cooler than the original Superman.

Q: How do you relieve stress?
DG: “By playing volleyball or spending time with a special friend.”

Q: What is your favorite holiday?
DG: “Christmas. I get to spend time with my family and I get to eat and drink lots of good stuff.”

Q: Which animal is most relatable to you? And why?
DG: “A lion. He is strong, confident, at the top of his game and at the same time he is able to care for a pride of lions.”

Q: What is your favorite part about being an NCCU Eagle?
DG: “The feeling of being a family even with alumni that don’t even know you.”

Q: What has been your favorite moment at NCCU?
DG: “The 2010 NCCU athletic banquet, it was set-up like a real athletic ceremony, resembling the prestigious ESPY awards. Also being amongst fellow athletes and reflecting on our season’s past accomplishments triggered the feeling that we are prepared to successfully compete on the division I level in the MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference).”
