Sarah Howard, a five-time All-ACC honoree and three-time NCAA Division I All-American in the shot put, joined the North Carolina Central University track and field program as an assistant coach in the summer of 2019. She works primarily with NCCU’s throwers.
During her time as a student-athlete at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she had a personal record in the shot put of 17.04 meters (55’11”) and a personal-best discus throw of 45.50 meters (149’3”), while also competing in the weight throw (12.90m/42’4”). The three-time shot put second-team All-American enjoyed her top national finish at the NCAA Division I Championships during the 2017 outdoor season in 12th place. During ACC indoor and outdoor championships, Howard achieved three runner-up performances and two third-place efforts – all in the shot put.
Not only was Howard a standout athlete at UNC-Chapel Hill, but she was also a solid student. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology and religious studies in 2017. Throughout her academic career, she maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.8. Howard was a Dean’s List student seven out of eight semesters, and a three-time USTAFCCCA Academic All- American.
Howard was also a counselor at UNC-Chapel Hill track and field camps for three summers.
