Former All-MEAC defensive back Ty Greenwood joined the North Carolina Central University football coaching staff in 2019 as an assistant coach, specializing with cornerbacks.

Greenwood came to NCCU from Delaware State University, where he worked with cornerbacks and linebackers from 2015-18. Prior to coaching at Delaware State, he was on the University of Kansas football staff as quality control coach for defense during the 2013-14 seasons.

Before Kansas, Greenwood spent six seasons on the staff at Pierce College in Los Angeles, where he served as defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach.

Greenwood is a 2004 graduate of Delaware State University, where he was a three-year starter at defensive back. While at DSU, he earned All-MEAC honors and was named the team’s defensive MVP in 2003, ranking second on the Hornets with 68 total tackles. That season, he was also tops on the team with five sacks and tied for third with 10 tackles-for-loss, while adding five forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, four pass break-ups and four pass deflections.

His three-year totals with the Hornets included 108 tackles, 14 tackles-for-loss, 6.5 sacks, nine pass break ups, nine deflections, seven forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
