Rod Milstead

Rod Milstead joined the NCCU football coaching staff for the 2013 season as an assistant offensive line coach.

Following his college football career at Delaware State University, Milstead was drafted in the fifth round of the 1992 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys. Milstead played on the offensive line as a guard in the National Football League for the San Francisco 49ers (1994-97) and the Washington Redskins (1998-99). Milstead was a part of the 49ers team that defeated the San Diego Chargers to win Super Bowl XXIX.

In high school, Milstead starred for the Lackey Chargers from 1983-1986. As a senior, he received first-team All-State honors and first-team All-Conference awards. In 1986, he helped lead the Chargers to a Class B state championship victory. He participated in the Big 33 Football Classic All-Star game that year, featuring the top high school players in Maryland.

While at Delaware State from 1987-1991, Milstead was a part of four conference championships in five years. He started every game of his collegiate career and was a key standout for the Hornets’ attack on the offensive line, receiving all-conference honors for three years. In May of 1991, Milstead graduated with a degree in criminal justice and sociology.
