Mike McCarthy joined the NCCU football staff as tight ends coach in January 2014 after spending the prior two seasons at Tulane University.

While at Tulane as an offensive graduate assistant, he coached in the 2013 New Orleans Bowl.

He also served as an offensive graduate assistant at Western Michigan University during the 2010-11 campaigns.

McCarthy made one-year stops at the College of New Jersey as offensive line coach (2009), the New York Jets as scouting and coaching intern (2008), and Rutgers University as a video assistant (2007 and spring 2010).

He played outside linebacker and long snapper at Widener University in Chester, Pa., before graduating with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in sports management in May 2007.

McCarthy and his wife Catherine have been married since 2011.
