Coach Marcus Gladden started his first season with the Eagles in 2008 as running backs coach. He also serves as Co-Special Teams Coordinator.
A native of Charlotte, N.C., Gladden joins the Eagles staff after two successful seasons (2006-07) as an assistant coach at Charleston Southern University. During his two years as secondary coach, the CSU defense amassed 29 interceptions, including a school record 18 picks in 2006.
Prior to Charleston Southern, Gladden held football coaching positions at Tennessee State (Defensive Backs/Tight Ends Coach, 2005), Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem, N.C. (Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers Coach, 2004), and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (Defensive Backs/Wide Receivers/Special Teams Coach, 2002-03).
He has also worked as strength and conditioning coach at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2001-02), Head Strength Coach at Charleston Southern University, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College and Reynolds High School, and an exercise and sports science intern at his alma mater East Carolina University.
As an undergraduate, Gladden spent two seasons at Garden City (Kan.) Community College, where he was a defensive back and all-American sprinter before transferring to ECU.
While in Greenville, N.C., he was a dual-sport letterwinner for the Pirates as a defensive back (1997-98) and an all-conference sprinter (1998-99), before graduating in 2000 with a degree in Exercise and Sports Science.
