Joseph Embree joined the NCCU football staff in 2012 as an assistant defensive backs coach and defensive coordinator.
A native of Baltimore, Md., Embree began his football coaching career attending Bowie State University, where he was a student assistant defensive coordinator. While at BSU, Embree received his bachelor’s degree in child and adolescent studies in May 2011.
Embree was among 30 NCAA football student-athletes selected to extend his football interests on the sidelines for the 2010 NCAA Future Coaches Academy during his senior year.Â
As a student-athlete at Bowie State, Embree started in all 11 games for the BSU Bulldogs football team in 2009, totaling 27 tackles, one tackle for a loss, three interceptions, nine pass breakups, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble.
Embree then decided to pursue his master’s degree in sports administration at NCCU. He started off as the student assistant defensive backs coach in 2012. For the 2013 season, he was hired as the football program’s video coordinator and retained his status as assistant defensive backs coach.
In 2012, Embree assisted in football camps such as Wagner, UNC Chapel Hill and N.C. State.Â
He is also affiliated with Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., Bowie State University Alumni Association, and American Football Coaches Association.
