A native of Danville, Va., Cabell is a veteran defensive coach who played for and graduated from the University of Nebraska. During his more than 30 years of coaching experience, Cabell has held positions at Texas Southern University (Defensive Coordinator; 2001), Tennessee State University (Defensive Coordinator/Recruiting Coordinator, 1996-99), Iowa Wesleyan College (Defensive Coordinator/Recruiting Coordinator/Strength and Conditioning Coach, 1995), Western Illinois University (Defensive Secondary Coach, 1993), Southwestern College (Head Coach, 1992), Oregon State University (Recruiting Coordinator, 1987-91), Eastern Washington University (Defensive Coordinator, 1980-87), and the University of Nebraska (Freshman Team Defensive Coordinator, 1977-80). Cabell is no stranger to NCCU. He actually began his college career as an Eagle, attending NCCU during the 1972-73 academic year and starting as a freshman corner back for head coach George Quiett during the 1972 MEAC championship season. Cabell left NCCU and earned an associate's degree from Ferrum College in 1974, before accepting a full scholarship to play corner back at the University of Nebraska. He went on to achieve both his bachelor's and master's degrees from Nebraska, in 1977 and 1979, respectively.
