Fabrienne Swepson is in her first year as Interim Director of Track & Field/Cross Country at North Carolina Central.

The Eagles have already tasted success under Swepson’s leadership. The NCCU women earned their highest finish ever at the 2025 MEAC Indoor Championships, placing third to gain a spot on the podium.

During the indoor season, one NCCU athlete was crowned individual champion (Jonathan Raijon-Koger/men’s high jump) and six collected all-conference honors at the MEAC Championships.

The Eagles’ momentum carried into the outdoor season. The NCCU men’s and women’s teams each finished fourth in the 2025 MEAC Championships which was the best ever for both squads at the meet.

The Eagles produced two MEAC individual champions (Gabriel Urraca/men’s shot put; Tia Lucas/women’s high jump) and nine All-MEAC competitors at the outdoor championship meet. Five NCCU athletes qualified for the NCAA Outdoor East Regional First Round.

NCCU was just as diligent in the classroom under Swepson. Four Eagles were named to the CSC Academic All-District Track & Field Team. Twenty-three (23) NCCU athletes were named to MEAC outdoor track & field All-Academic team and 21 Eagles were selected to the MEAC indoor track & field All-Academic squad.

Swepson was hired at NCCU as an assistant track & field coach in 2021. She spent three years as Throwers Coach before being elevated to Interim Director. During her stint at NCCU, Swepson has had the unique privilege of coaching her children – All-MEAC standouts Victoria (distance runner) and Matthew Swepson (shot putter). In 2022, the Swepson trio was featured in a local newspaper article.

Prior to her arrival at NCCU, Swepson was a track and field assistant at Research Triangle High School for seven years where she helped guide the team to numerous conference, regional and state crowns.

Swepson also spent three years from 2016 to 2019 as head coach of the Triangle Champions Track Club. She developed countless Junior Olympic All-American throwers during her time with the program.

As a collegian, Swepson competed for N.C. State in track & field and later at Fayetteville State in cross country. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Fayetteville State in 1998, finishing in the top 15 percent of her class.

Her husband is Victor Swepson and they have four children - Michal, Candace, Matthew and Victoria. In addition to being collegiate track stars, Matthew and Victoria both earned Masters degrees from NCCU in May 2025.
