1998-99 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Freshman Angela Brown leaps for sixth place and All-America honors in the women's long jump at the 1999 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis, Indiana. 
  • Senior Stephanie Spindler throws a no-hitter in a 25-0 blasting of Saint Paul's in day two action of the annual CIAA Softball Round-Up in Raleigh. 
  • NCCU women's basketball head coach Joli Robinson is selected as the 1999 CIAA Coach of the Year.   The 1998-99 Lady Eagles tied a school record by winning seven consecutive games, established a new school record by winning 11 straight home games, earned its first-ever regional ranking, claimed its first ever regular season CIAA Western Division Championship, advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament for only the second time in school history, earned the highest regional ranking by ending the regular season as the No. 8 team in the South Atlantic Region of NCAA Division II, and established a new standard for women's basketball at NCCU by amassing 20 wins. 
  • Kickoff and punt return specialist Montez Patterson is selected to the 1998 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II South All-Star Team, after leading the CIAA in kickoff return average. 
  • The Lady Eagle volleyball team, winners of 24 straight matches in 1998, claims the CIAA Western Division Championship title for the regular season. 
  • Senior Ansel Brown is recognized as the "Division II College Football Burger King Scholar Athlete of the Week" and as the "1999 Schick Black College Football Scholar Athlete of the Year," adding $15,000 to the NCCU scholarship fund. 
  • The men's and women's basketball teams sweep regular season conference honors by both winning the CIAA Western Division Championships. 
  • The Lady Eagle softball team repeats as CIAA Champions, powered by an M.V.P. performance by freshman Whitney Taylor-Davis. 
  • Senior Stephanie Spindler, a Nursing major with a 3.36 GPA and the 1999 CIAA Softball Player of the Year, is selected to the 1999 GTE Academic All-District III Softball Team (Second Team). 
  • NCCU freshman Michael Patterson ran for individual All-America honors in the 400 meter dash, and joined Tavius Walker, Albert Newkirk and Floyd Ingalls to claim All-America merits in the 4x100 meter relay at the 1999 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track Championship in Emporia, Kansas. 
  • Six student-athletes represent NCCU on the 1999 CIAA Commissioner's All-Academic Team - Ansel Brown, Rebecca Freeman, Lisa Hicks, Karla Mark, Yolanda McDowell and Stephanie Spindler.
