NCCU Student-Athletes, Coaches and Athletics Staff Making a Difference
The student-athletes, coaches and staff of the North Carolina Central University Department of Athletics take pride in their community and the motto of "Truth and Service" set forth by the university's founder Dr. James E. Shepard. The following is a list of community activities and events that members of the NCCU Athletics family have been involved with this year:

April 4-5, 2012 - Various student-athletes supervised and participated in different stations during C.C. Spaulding elementary school field day. Photos

Nov. 22, 2011 - About 20 volunteers from the NCCU Department of Athletics help decorate for the holidays, pack meals, and prepare care packages at the nonprofit CAARE, Inc., center in downtown Durham. Full Story

Nov. 12, 2011 - Members of the men’s tennis team conducted a free tennis clinic for students from the Durham Nativity School on NCCU's campus.

Nov., 11, 2011 - On Veterans Day, members of the men's and women's track & field program volunteered in the painting, landscaping, and interior decorating of a 5,000 square foot, 15-bed dormitory-style shelter for homeless veterans in Durham, established by CAARE, Inc. Photo Gallery

Nov. 1, 2011 - Joli Robinson and the women's basketball program announce partnership with "Share The Warmth" to collect blankets, coats, hats, scarves, gloves and other outerwear for those in need.

Oct. 11, 2011 - Members of the men's tennis, baseball, softball, women's basketball and cheerleading teams volunteered at the Durham Rescue Mission as part of the NCCU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee community service initiative.

Sept. 2, 2011 - Members of the cheerleading and women's basketball squads visited R.N. Harris Elementary School to speak with the students.

May 27, 2011 - LeVelle Moton, men's basketball head coach, along with members of the men's basketball team, trade in their sneakers for dancing shoes at “Dance Like No One’s Watching,” a prom-like gala for terminally ill and disabled teens and adults held in Raleigh, N.C.

April 30, 2011 - Members of football and women's bowling teams help build a Habitat for Humanity house at 808 Colfax Street in Durham. The recipient of the home is Norma R. Smith, who is an employee of NCCU. Photos

Jan. 26, 2011 - Student-athletes package meals for the "Million Meals Stop The Hunger Now" campaign, held at Southern High School's cafeteria. The community service event was a collective effort put on by Southern High School, Rotary Club, North Carolina Central University and Duke. The purpose of the event was to package meals to be sent out across the world to feed the hungry. Photos
