Eagles Cap MEAC Round-Up with Sweep of Coppin State

NORFOLK, Va. – In its MEAC Round-Up finale, North Carolina Central men's tennis took care of business with a 7-0 sweep over Coppin State on Sunday afternoon at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center. The Eagles secured their 10th win of the season.

NCCU (10-6, 3-0 MEAC) claimed all three doubles matches to take control early. Naresh Bharathy and Antoni Pankowski dominated at No. 2 doubles, not giving up a single game.

Pankowski carried that momentum into singles, earning a 6-3, 6-0 victory at the No. 4 position. Santiago Pinna followed with a strong 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles.

Pol Puig Montiel clinched the match for the Eagles at No. 5 singles, shutting out his opponent in the second set to secure the fourth point. Neiman Sneed added another convincing win at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-1.

Bharathy and Rodrigo Alves closed out the day for NCCU. Both were tested in first-set tiebreakers but prevailed and carried that momentum into the second set. Bharathy cruised to a 6-1 finish, while Alves secured his match with a 6-3 second set.

Coppin State (1-7, 0-2 MEAC) wraps up Round-Up play Monday morning.

NCCU will have a week to prepare for its next matchup against South Carolina State, scheduled for Monday, April 6 at 12:30 p.m. at Cary Tennis Park.
