DURHAM, N.C. –
Aniya Finger scored 13 points and added three steals off the bench but North Carolina Central's late rally came up short in a 75-68 women's basketball loss to Coppin State at McDougald-McLendon Arena on Saturday.
Amaya Harris added a career-high 12 points on a perfect 4 of 4 three-point shooting in a reserve role for the Eagles (3-6 MEAC, 7-16), who entered Senior Day having won four of their last five games including two in a row.
Morgan Callahan finished with 11 points and eight rebounds, three steals, three assists and two blocks.
Coppin State (6-4 MEAC, 9-18) led all but the opening minute and entered halftime ahead 37-30. Trailing by as many as 18 points, the Eagles used a 17-5 spurt to close within six points at 70-64 on Finger's layup with under two minutes left. They would draw no closer.
Behind Harris' perfect shooting, NCCU canned 12 of 21 three-pointers for a season-high 57.1 percent.
Aysia Hinton finished 3 of 5 and
Tierney Coleman was 2 of 3 from three-point range.
NCCU forced 21 Coppin State miscues but were outscored 19-12 in turnover points and outrebounded 46-34. The Eagles shot 35.9 percent from the floor and Coppin State hit 40.3 percent of its attempts.
Following the game, Eagles' guard
Najah Lane was honored as part of the Senior Day ceremony along with several members of the NCCU men's basketball team.
