Eagles Host Key Matchups This Week

DURHAM, N.C. – With the regular season winding down, North Carolina Central hosts two important women's basketball games at McDougald-McLendon Arena this week.

Morgan State visits the Eagles on Thursday, Feb. 12, with tipoff set for 6:30 p.m. Two days later, NCCU welcomes Coppin State on Saturday, Feb. 14, at 2 p.m. Both MEAC contests will be livestreamed on ESPN+.

NCCU (2-5 MEAC, 6-15 overall) is on a roll, having won three of their last four games with all three victories coming at home. The Eagles, tied for fifth in the MEAC, are looking to continue their surge against two opponents who defeated them earlier in the season. The Eagles dropped a 64-63 contest to Morgan State on Jan. 8 and lost 77-70 to Coppin State on Jan. 10.

NCCU will lean on forward Aniya Finger, who has been on a tear recently. Finger registered double-doubles in each of her last three MEAC games, including 16 points and 10 rebounds in a 58-44 home win over Delaware State on Monday. The MEAC Defensive Player of the Week, Finger has averaged 19 points, 11 rebounds and 2.6 steals in her last three conference games, including a 30-point, 12-rebound, 6-steal night on Feb. 2 in handing Maryland Eastern Shore its first MEAC loss. The 30 points were a career-high for Finger.

Her frontcourt mate Morgan Callahan is on the verge of becoming the program's career scoring leader in the Division I era. She needs 11 points to surpass former NCCU player Chasity Williams, the current record-holder with 1,296 career points.

The Eagles are seeking their third straight win at home over Morgan State (2-6 MEAC, 3-21), which ranks last in the MEAC in opponents' field goal shooting percentage at 43.6 percent in conference games. On Saturday, NCCU will attempt to snap a four-game losing streak to Coppin State (4-4 MEAC, 7-18). That same day, NCCU guard Najah Lane will be among those honored on Senior Day.
