NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina Central's Aaron Alukunyang was selected men's cross country runner of the week while the Eagles' Navi McDowell was named women's cross country runner of the week by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) on Wednesday.

Alukunyang captured his second MEAC weekly honor after winning the men's 8K race in 24:34.2 at the Lancer Pink Invitational in Farmville, Va., last Friday. The Iten, Kenya, native finished nearly two minutes ahead of the runner-up.

The MEAC's top-ranked runner has won each of the Eagles' four meets this season, tying the program Division I record for wins (4) in a season. He shares the mark with former Eagle standout Meshack Kuyo, who won four races in 2024 including the men's 8K title at the MEAC Championships.

McDowell earned her first MEAC weekly honor after posting a season-best time of 20:18.3 to place 15^th out of 50 competitors in the women's 5K race last week. Her time at the Lancer Pink Invitational ranks ninth in the MEAC this season.

A Homewood, Ill. native, McDowell joins Alukunyang as the Eagles' two MEAC weekly cross country winners this season. Last year, she helped lead the NCCU women to a third-place finish in the MEAC Championships, earning all-conference honors after finishing 12^th.
