Eagles Bounce Back, Defeat Fayetteville State by 30

DURHAM, N.C. — Quarterback Walker Harris threw for three touchdown passes and ran for another Saturday evening in O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium, as the North Carolina Central University football program defeated Fayetteville State 49-19.

The Eagles broke a two-game skid and improved to 2-2 on the season.

Harris had his best game of 2025, completing 23 of 36 passes for 387 yards and three scores. He found eight different receivers; they all had at least two receptions. He also scored his first rushing touchdown of the season in dramatic fashion by jumping over the goal line just before the half.

The first quarter was a low-scoring affair, with the Eagles striking first on a 10-play, 31-yard drive that culminated in a 23-yard field goal from Kaleb Robison. The Broncos (0-3) answered with a field goal of their own in the closing seconds of the frame to tie the game at 3-3.

But the Eagles scored 17 unanswered points in the second quarter. The first touchdown came with 9:02 left in the quarter on a 7-yard pass from Harris to tight end Luke Bracey, and Robison added a 22-yard field goal at the 3:10 mark to bring the lead to 13-3.

Harris added a rushing touchdown with 30 seconds left in the half, giving the Eagles a 21-3 lead going into the break.

Fayetteville State got back on the board with 9:41 left in the third quarter after a 69-yard rushing touchdown from Bryce Council, cutting the lead to 21-10, before the Eagles responded with three straight touchdowns of their own.

The first came with 2:15 left in the quarter, when Harris hit Quentin McCall from 21 yards out. The Eagles defense got in on the action on the ensuing drive, when Tomondrey Braxton took an interception 28 yards to the house to grow the lead to 28-10.

Harris found his third score of the night on a deep play, hitting Mehki Wall from 65 yards out with 13:55 to play.

Zion Dobson added an 11-yard touchdown run with 3:09 left to give the Eagles their final score of the night.

The Eagles finished with 499 yards of total offense, 398 of which came through the air. NCCU averaged 16.6 yards per completion, and the Eagles were 4-for-5 in the red zone.

NCCU's defense held the Broncos to 234 total offense, just 84 through the air.

The Eagles will head to Greensboro, N.C., next Saturday for their annual rivalry game against North Carolina A&T. The game will kick off live from Truist Stadium at 4 p.m., and will air live on FloFootball.
