DURHAM, N.C. - North Carolina Central will close out the regular season against South Carolina State on Thursday, March 6.
The MEAC women's basketball matchup is set for 5:30 p.m. at the SHM Memorial Center in Orangeburg, S.C. The contest will be the fifth in 11Â days for the Eagles, who own a six-game win streak over the Bulldogs. In their last meeting, NCCU trounced S.C. State 71-56 at home on Jan. 25.
Morgan Callahan and
Shakiria Foster both led the Eagles with 17 points in that contest.
Aysia Hinton scored 14 points and
Jada Creech chipped in nine points off the bench.Â
Kyla Bryant (13.3 ppg) and Callahan (12.3 ppg) pace the Eagles in scoring and Callahan is the team's top rebounder (8.0 rpg). Bryant (3.5 apg) leads the Eagles in assists.
NCCU is among the nation's top shot blocking teams, thanks to
Jada Tiggett and Callahan. The Eagles rank first in the MEAC and 15th in the nation in blocks per game (5.0).
Tiggett leads the MEAC in blocks per game for the second straight season. She averages 2.4 blocks which is 12th-best in the country. Callahan is third in the MEAC with 1.6 blocks per game.
The Bulldogs are led by Shaunice Reed, who averages 11.7 points and 1 steal per game. She scored 26 points in the first meeting between both teams.
NCCU will finish either fifth or sixth in the MEAC standings heading into the conference tournament set for March 12-15 in Norfolk, Va. South Carolina State is tied for last place.
