LAS VEGAS – North Carolina Central University quarterback
Walker Harris was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Offensive Player of the Year on Tuesday, as part of the National Football Foundation (NFF) and College Football Hall of Fame Awards festivities at the Bellagio Resort & Casino.
He is NCCU's first MEAC Offensive Player of the Year since quarterback Davius Richard (2022, 2023) and third overall (joining Richard and running back Jefferson Inmon, 1972).
Harris was a First Team All-MEAC honoree this season, leading the Eagles to an 8-4 mark. He became the top single-season passer in program history, throwing for 3,214 yards and 24 touchdowns. He is only the second Eagles quarterback to throw for 3,000 yards in a season (Earl Harvey - 1985, 3,190 yards).
He ranks fifth in FCS in passing yards and passing yards per game, and he's tied for 15th in touchdown passes. He was the MEAC's leading passer by nearly 1,000 total yards, and he led the conference in total offense (274.3 ypg).
Harris threw for multiple touchdown passes in a game eight times this past season, including a string of seven games in a row from Sept. 13 (Fayetteville State) to Nov. 8 (Norfolk State). On Nov. 1, he threw a season-high four touchdowns against Howard and added three more each against Fayetteville State, North Carolina A&T, and Norfolk State.
He topped 300 passing yards four times, including a career-high 387 against Fayetteville State. He followed that performance with 380 passing yards against the rival Aggies the following week.
For his NCCU career, Harris ranks fifth in program history with 5,777 passing yards.
He was a four-time MEAC Offensive Player of the Week, while also earning Stats Perform HBCU FCS National Player of the Week and BoxToRow HBCU National Player of the Week honors.
Coming into the 2025 season, Harris was named to the Black College Football Player of the Year Watch List and the Stats Perform HBCU FCS National Player of the Year Preseason Watch List.
