Eagles Wrap Up 2025 At Home Against Averett

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central will close out the 2025 calendar year at home against Averett in a women's basketball game at McDougald-McLendon Arena on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at 2 p.m.

The non-conference contest marks the first meeting between the Eagles and Averett and the fifth time NCCU will face an NCAA Division III opponent since becoming a Division I member. Their record against Division III teams is 4-0 including a 90-55 road victory over Pfeiffer on Jan. 23, 2025.

Averett (4-6 overall) competes in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) which is one of the largest NCAA Division III conferences. Picked 12th in the 12-team ODAC Preseason Poll, the Cougars are riding a three-game win streak. DaiShaundria Giggetts paces Averett in points (14.6 ppg), rebounds (4.9 rpg) and steals (2.7 ppg).

The Eagles (2-10 overall) rely on their inside duo of Morgan Callahan and Aniya Finger, who posted team highs of 17 points, five rebounds and four steals in a road loss to No. 8 Oklahoma on Dec. 22. Callahan ranks among the MEAC top 10 players in scoring (11 ppg), rebounding (6.7 rpg), free throw percentage, blocks and steals.

Tuesday's matchup is the first of two games against Division III opponents this season for the Eagles, who will host William Peace in their final non-conference game on Feb. 3, 2026. After playing Averett, the Eagles will begin MEAC action at home against Norfolk State on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026.
