Eagles Will Face Queens For First Time

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central will square off against Queens (N.C.) in women's basketball for the first time ever on Wednesday, Dec. 17.

The historic matchup will take place at Curry Arena in Charlotte, N.C., at 12:30 p.m. ESPN+ will livestream the contest between the non-conference schools.

The contest is part of the Eagles' four-game road swing. NCCU (1-9 overall) enters Wednesday following away games against nationally-ranked South Carolina and High Point. The Eagles conclude the road stretch at nationally-ranked Oklahoma on Dec. 22.

Wednesday's clash features a battle between two standout forwards. Morgan Callahan, the MEAC Preseason Player of the Year, paces the Eagles in scoring (10.9 ppg) and rebounding (6.7 rpg). She is coming off a season-high 22 points in Sunday's loss to High Point, one point off her career high.

Callahan, a 6-0 forward, ranks among the MEAC's top 10 in several statistical categories including scoring, rebounding, free throw percentage, blocks and minutes played.

Queens (5-4 overall) is sparked by 6-1 forward Brenae Jones-Grant, who leads the Royals in scoring (15.6 ppg) and rebounding (8.9). Jones-Grant ranks ninth nationally in field goal percentage (61.8).

On Sunday, Jones-Grant collected 21 points on 9 of 10 shooting, eight rebounds and two steals in an easy home win over Carolina University.

Queens also attacks from long range, making nearly eight three-pointers a game. NCCU plans to counter with pressure defense that forces close to 23 turnovers a contest.
