Spikes, Humphrey Earn MEAC Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va.North Carolina Central University wide receiver Chauncey Spikes earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Offensive Player of the Week honors on Monday, while offensive lineman Trevon Humphrey was named Offensive Lineman of the Week.

Spikes showed out in the Eagles' 35-14 win at Howard University, catching nine balls for a career-high 208 yards and three touchdowns. He racked up the fifth-highest single-game receiving yardage total in program history, and the most in a game since 1990.

It was Spikes' second 100-yard receiving game of the season. He is two yards shy of 1,000 receiving yards for his career.

Humphrey graded out at 94 percent on his blocking assignments with five pancake blocks against the Bison. He anchored an offensive line that powered the Eagles to 471 total yards, including 321 passing and 150 rushing.

NCCU has recorded at least 450 total yards in six straight games.

Spikes picked up his first MEAC honor of the season, to go along with being named Stats Perform HBCU National Player of the Week earlier on Monday, while Humphrey was recognized for the second time this year.

The Eagles will return to O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium on Saturday, when they take on Norfolk State at 2 p.m. The game is set for a 2 p.m. kickoff and will air on ESPN+.
