Strong Second Half Leads Eagles to Win over Morgan State

BALTIMORE - The North Carolina Central University football program ended the regular season with a 33-14 win by holding Morgan State to just seven points in the second half on Saturday afternoon in Hughes Stadium.

The Eagles finish the season 8-4 overall, 3-2 in conference play.

Quarterback Walker Harris became the program's top single-season passer; with 264 yards and two touchdowns against the Bears, he ended the 2025 season with 3,214 passing yards.

He surpassed Earl Harvey's 3,190 passing yards in the 1985 season.

Kaleb Robison got the scoring started for the Eagles with a 20-yard field goal that capped a 13-play, 63-yard drive to give NCCU a 3-0 lead.

NCCU (8-4, 3-2 MEAC) extended the lead to 10-0 near the end of the first quarter with a 16-yard pass from Harris to Refeo Vangates, his third touchdown reception of the season.

Robison added three more points, this time on a 23-yard field goal after the Eagles got the ball on Jalani Vassell's fourth interception of the season. NCCU led 13-0 at the 13:02 mark of the first half.

Later in the second quarter, Raymond Moore III connected with Justin Perry from 30 yards out, putting the Bears on the board and cutting the Eagles' lead to 13-7.

Following Vassell's second interception of the game, setting the Eagles up with 1st-and-10 at the Bears' 13-yard line, Chris Mosley ran in from six yards out to extend the lead to 20-7 on NCCU's first possession of the second half.

The Bears answered that score with one of their own, coming off a turnover. Moore would sneak up the middle from a yard out to cap a 7-play, 37-yard drive to cut the lead to 20-14 with 7:54 left in the third quarter.

But that's as close as Morgan State would get.

On the ensuing kickoff, Vangates went 92 yards for the Eagles' first kickoff return for a touchdown of the season. His second score of the day gave the Eagles a 27-14 lead at the 7:41 mark.

It was NCCU's first kickoff return touchdown since the 2019 season.

Chauncey Spikes got in on the scoring for the Eagles with 4:31 left in the fourth quarter, grabbing a 15-yard touchdown reception from Harris. His ninth receiving touchdown of the season put NCCU up 33-14.

Mosley led the team in both rushing (86 yards on 19 carries, one TD) and receiving (seven catches, 71 yards). Harris completed passes to eight different receivers.

The Eagles' defense held Morgan State (4-8, 1-4 MEAC) to 234 total yards, the fourth time this season NCCU has held a team under 250 yards of total offense.
