NORFOLK, Va. - Standout guard
Kyla Bryant of North Carolina Central was named MEAC Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week on Monday after two outstanding performances last week.
This is the second straight MEAC Player of the Week honor for Bryant, who averaged 27 points, 8.5 assists and six rebounds in two games. The sophomore guard collected 22 points, 12 assists and five rebounds in an 84-79 loss to Morgan State last Tuesday. The double-double was Bryant's second in her collegiate career.
Bryant produced 32 points, seven rebounds and five assists in a 92-86 double overtime win over Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday. The 32 points were a career-high for Bryant, who connected on 20 of 21 free throws against UMES. The Eagles shot a school record 44 of 56 from the charity stripe.
Bryant played the entire 40 minutes against Morgan State and all but the final seconds against UMES after fouling out. She leads the MEAC in minutes per game (37.0).
A Salisbury, N.C., native, Bryant is also the MEAC leader in points per game (23.7) and assists per game (8.7) in conference play. Overall, Bryant averages 14 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.9 assists for the Eagles.
