NC State Rallies Past NCCU Twice

RALEIGH, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University softball team got go-ahead home runs off the bats of seniors Jaylah Barr and Hailey Batista in each end of Wednesday's non-conference doubleheader, but host North Carolina State University rallied both times to win by scores of 13-3 and 6-3.

NC Central (16-33) will conclude its regular season with a three-game MEAC home series against South Carolina State University on Saturday-Sunday, April 27-28. NC State finished the day with a 27-20 overall record.

GAME ONE: NC State 13, NC Central 3 (5 Inn.)

Barr ripped a two-run homer in the top of the first and sophomore Nyla Rodgers drove in NCCU's third run with a single in the top of the second to put the visitors ahead by three, but the Wolfpack used two big innings to rally for the run-rule victory.

NC State plated six runs in the home half of the second and seven more in the third. The Wolfpack scored their 13 runs on just eight hits, but nearly of them were of the extra base variety with three doubles and three home runs.

Barr, who was named MEAC Player of the Week for a second time this season, hit her fifth home run of the season over the left-field fence.

The Eagles finished with five hits. Senior Imara Harrell singled in the first just before Barr's two-run home run. Freshman Adriana Person singled to start the second and scored on Rodgers run-producing base knock.

GAME TWO: NC State 6, NC Central 3

Batista hit a three-run homer in the top of the second inning to give NCCU a 3-1 lead in the nightcap and junior pitcher Jaden Davis made that score hold up for four innings before the Wolfpack made their second comeback.

NCSU's fourth home run of the day tied the game in the bottom of the sixth before ending the game with a three-run, walk-off home by sophomore Amanda Hasler with one out in the bottom of the seventh.

Sophomores Takia Nichols and Makiya Graves drew back-to-back before Batista blasted her team-high sixth homer to left field in the second inning.
