KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Freshman guard
Shakiria Foster had one of her best collegiate games on Saturday, dropping a team-high 17 points as the North Carolina Central University women's basketball team fell 139-59 to No. 19 Tennessee in the Food City Center.
The Eagles are 0-12 on the season.
Foster went 6-for-11 from the floor against the Lady Vols, hitting three of her seven 3-pointers. Freshman guard
Terriana Gray was also in double figures for the Eagles, scoring 10 points for the first double-digit scoring effort of her collegiate career.
Foster has scored in double figures in three of her last four games, and five of her last seven.
The Eagles shot 40.0% (20-for-50) from the floor and made six of their 18 attempts from behind the arc. But the free throw line was once again a struggle, as N.C. Central went 13-for-19 (68.4%) from the charity stripe.
The Lady Vols (8-0) hit an NCAA single-game record 30 3-pointers, hitting 47.6% of their shots from distance. From the floor, Tennessee went 47-for-90 (52.2%), while also holding a 43-34 edge in rebounding.
They also scored 73 points off 44 Eagle turnovers.
Samara Spencer led six Lady Vols in double figures with a career-high 33 points.
The Eagles will be back in action on Friday, when they head to Rock Hill, S.C., to take on Winthrop at 12 p.m.
