CHARLESTON, S.C. – Graduate forward
Morgan Callahan recorded her first double-double of the season Wednesday evening in North Carolina Central's 85-54 loss to Charleston at TD Arena.
The Lady Eagles are now 0-5 on the season.
Callahan, a preseason Second Team All-MEAC selection matched her season high with 18 points on 9-for-17 shooting, while also grabbing a team- and season-high 10 rebounds. This was her first double-double since March 7 of last season against South Carolina State.
Sophomore guard
Kyla Bryant was also in double figures, going for 11 points and six boards.
Freshman guard
Victoria Morris added nine rebounds for the Eagles.
N.C. Central shot 34.5% (20-for-58) from the floor, but struggled from behind the arc, going 1-for-15. The Eagles did hold the rebounding advantage, 50-48.
The Eagles led in the closing minutes of the first quarter, going up 15-12 on a jumper from sophomore guard/forward
Jada Tiggett. But Charleston scored the last three points of the frame to tie things up at 15-15, turning that momentum into a 28-12 run that grew the lead to 443-27 at the half.
Charleston kept control of the game from there.
Charleston shot 28-for-76 (36.8%) from the floor and scored 37 points off 33 Eagle turnovers.
Taryn Barbot led Charleston (3-0) with 17 points.
The Eagles will return to action on Monday, traveling to Tallahassee, Fla., to take on Florida State. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
