EAGLES PITCH A SHUTOUT IN DOMINANT HOME WIN

DURHAM, N.C. - The North Carolina Central University football team scored 33 points in the opening quarter on its way to a 68-0 win over Virginia-Lynchburg in the Eagles' final non-conference game of the season at O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium on Saturday.

The game was shortened in the second half.

Opening the contest, N.C. Central ended up scoring 13 points in less than a second of game time. The sequence started when quarterback Walker Harris connected with Joaquin Davis from 24 yards out for the game's first score, giving the Eagles a 6-0 lead after a blocked PAT.

On the ensuing kickoff, a player from Virginia-Lynchburg tipped the ball as it settled in the end zone, and Kamari Houze dived on it for the second touchdown of the game, without any time going off the clock.

Just like that, the Eagles found themselves up 13-0 with 12:32 left in the quarter.

Later in the first quarter, running back Christian Mosley got in on the scoring with his third rushing touchdown of the season, punching it in form four yards out to make it 20-0 in the first quarter.

Wide receiver Mehki Wall picked up his second receiving touchdown of the season when he caught a 9-yard pass from Harris to put the Eagles up 27-0 before the quarter was even over.

Harris threw two touchdowns in the first quarter, and N.C. Central scored a touchdown on six straight possessions from the start of the game up into the third quarter.

Taylor made it seven games in a row with a rushing touchdown in the second quarter by scoring from three yards out, extending the Eagles lead to 34-0.

Freshman running back Aleni Mageo recorded his first touchdown on a 2-yard run, giving N.C. Central a 41-0 lead. He finished the game with 64 yards rushing on just three carries.

Zion Dobson completed the scoring for the running back group with a 5-yard touchdown run midway through the third quarter. That score gave the Eagles a 48-0 lead.

Dobson had 12 carries for 98 yards to lead all running backs.

As a group, the Eagles finished with 326 yards rushing.

Freshman quarterback Joshua Jones threw his second touchdown pass of the season when he hit Sterling Greene in the back corner of the end zone from 15 yards out to give the Eagles up 55-0 after three.

Quest Powellscored the final touchdown of the game from 1-yard out with 6:20 to play in the fourth quarter, capping a six-play, 56-yard drive, which provided the final score of 66-0.

The Eagles were a perfect 8-for-8 in the red zone and have converted 28 of 29 trips to the red zone on the season.

The Eagles defense was strong once again, not allowing a single yard rushing, and the Dragons didn't convert a third down on the day.

The Eagles are idle next weekend.
