NCCU Handed First MEAC Road Loss at UMES

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Junior forward Morgan Callahan secured her sixth double-double of the season to highlight play for the North Carolina Central University women's basketball team in a 78-61 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) road loss at University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday afternoon.

Callahan contributed team-high totals of 20 points and 10 rebounds for her eighth career double-double at NCCU. Callahan was the only Eagle to shoot over 50 percent from the field, swishing seven of her 12 total field goal attempts.

UMES (9-10 Overall, 2-2 MEAC) was clinging to narrow leads of 15-13 after the first quarter and 34-29 at halftime before pulling away from NCCU with a big third quarter. The Hawks outscored the Eagles 26-17 in that decisive frame, including a key 11-2 run.

The Hawks shot 45.1 percent from the floor on the way to winning their second straight league tilt while the Eagles were held to 31.3 percent accuracy.

Mahogany Lester paced UMES and matched Callahan for game-high scoring honors with 20 points. Lainey Allen added a double-double for the hosts with 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Ja'la Bannerman and Mya Thomas bucketed 13 points apiece.
