CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University (0-1) men's tennis team dropped its first match of the season in a 4-0 contest at No.13 University of North Carolina (2-0) on Thursday evening.
This was the second match of the day for UNC as NCCU was in the finale. The match followed the best-of-seven rule with the Tar Heels outpacing the Eagles to four points.
In singles, sophomore Naresh Bharathy fell in two straight 6-2 sets while freshman Leo Fortier-Gariepy earned three points in the second set but couldn't outlast his opponent.
Sophomore Kareem Abdul Hakim and redshirt freshman Lucas Artigas both faced nationally ranked players in singles.
Abdul Hakim and junior Hugo Hidalgo Vega teamed up in doubles falling 6-3 while the duo of Bharathy and senior Shaka Cristellotti were halted 6-2.
The Eagles have a quick turnaround as they compete in Chapel Hill, N.C. again on Friday. The new opponent will be Princeton University in an 11:30 a.m. match.
