NCCU Drops Two Games to League Leader

CARY, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University softball team celebrated Senior and Alumni Day on Saturday, but was then held scoreless as visiting Morgan State University swept a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Thomas Brooks Park by scores of 5-0 and 4-0.

Senior first baseman Kortnee Booth was recognized prior to play.

NC Central (14-31, 12-7) and Morgan State (24-19, 14-4) will conclude the series with a single game on Sunday beginning at noon.

GAME ONE: Morgan State 5, NC Central 0

Freshman leadoff batter Makiya Graves paced the Eagles with three hits, including a double, to give NCCU several chances to score. However, the Eagles stranded eight runners on base in the shutout loss.

Junior pitcher Anaya Hunte held NCCU scoreless on the way to her seventh shutout of the season. The reigning MEAC Pitcher of the Year improved to 15-8 on the season and she tallied nine strikeouts.

Like Graves, MSU received most of its offense from the top of the order as senior leadoff batter Asia Thomas swiped four stolen bases and scored three times.

GAME TWO: Morgan State 4, NC Central 0

Morgan State scored in three different innings and got a strong pitching performance by senior Victoria Fletcher to complete the sweep. Fletcher improved to 9-4 with her third shutout of her campaign.

NCCU looked to have finally scored its lone run of the day in the bottom of the sixth inning, but the run was erased after the umpires ruled that the play involved runner's interference at second base.

Junior Mia Ewell led the victors offensively, with two RBI on a pair of hits.

Sophomore Jaden Davis had two of NCCU's four hits.
