ELON, N.C. – Freshman
Nyla Rodgers hit safely in both of her plate appearances to account for half of North Carolina Central University's four hits in an 8-0 non-conference road loss at Elon University on Tuesday evening.
The Eagles were held off the scoreboard for the first time since March 3 as a trio of Phoenix pitchers combined for the shutout in the five-inning contest.
Elon improved to 15-20 on the season while NCCU dipped to 12-24.
Rodgers singled in both of her at bats to highlight play for the maroon and gray. Juniors
Imara Harrell and
Maegan Garrison both chipped in singles and they were the only Eagle runners to reach third base.
The Phoenix did all of their damage early, scoring two runs in the first and six runs in the second inning. All nine starters for Elon either had at least a hit or a run scored in those two frames.
NC Central will next host Norfolk State University in a three-game Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) series at Thomas Brooks Park on Saturday-Sunday, April 15-16.
