NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The North Carolina Central University men's tennis team was defeated 5-2 by Hampton University at the James River Country Club on Wednesday afternoon.
Reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week
Sebastian Pino defeated Donte Armbrister 6-3, 6-2 to earn his third singles victory of the season.
Junior
Shaka Cristellotti was up 5-3 before his opponent Jeremiah Williams had to retire to give the Eagles their second point.
Current MEAC Rookie of the Week
Kareem Abdul Hakim battled and was outlasted by Daniel Flynn 6-3, 3-6,6-4, while sophomore
Oliver Saarinen was beaten by Erden Er 6-0, 6-1.
Freshmen
Facundo Olmedo and
Naresh Bharathy was clipped by Emillano Jorquera and Ange-Kevin Koua 6-2, 6-1, and 6-4, 6-3, respectively.
In doubles action, Pino/Saarinen fell to Flynn/Er (6-3), Abdul Hakim/Olmedo was clipped by Armbrister/Jorquera (6-2), and the combination of freshman
Liam Murtaugh and Cristellotti's match against Koua and Williams went unfinished.
Up next, NCCU (1-10) will play an exhibition match against Virginia Wesleyan University tomorrow at 5 p.m. Then they return to action on Sunday, March 12 as they host ACC foe Florida State University at the Dr. James W. Younge Tennis Courts at 5 p.m.
