RALEIGH, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University men's tennis team battled but was defeated 7-0 by NC State at the Wolfpack's J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center on Wednesday night.
The action began with NC State taking the doubles point. Damien Salvestre and Martins Rocens clipped the freshmen duo of
Kareem Abdul Hakim and
Naresh Bharathy (6-2), while Braden Shick and Fons Van Sambeek beat junior
Shaka Cristellotti and freshman
Liam Murtaugh (6-3).
In singles play, sophomore
Oliver Saarinen fought hard but was outlasted by Salvestre (6-2, 6-2). Abdul Hakim and Rocens battled back and forth, however, Rocens won the match 6-4, 6-3.
Additionally in singles action, freshmen
Neiman Sneed and
Facundo Olmedo fell 6-2, 6-2, and 6-2, 6-0 to Robin Cantry and Van Sambeek, respectively.
Bharathy and graduate student
Sebastian Pino were defeated by Luca Staeheli (6-0, 6-2), and Rafa Izquierdo Luque (6-2, 6-1).
Up next, NCCU (0-4) will host Campbell University in its first home match of the campaign on Friday, Feb. 10. The action from the Dr. James W. Younge Tennis Courts will begin at 2 p.m.
