CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University softball team was held to just one hit and one run in an 11-1 non-conference road loss at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on Tuesday evening.
The Tar Heels scored five unearned runs in the run-rule victory. North Carolina improved to 6-4 on the season.
Junior
Morgan Green scored NCCU's lone run and sophomore
Jaden Davis tallied the only hit for the Eagles with a single to left field with two outs in the third inning.
NCCU took advantage of a North Carolina throwing error to take the initial 1-nil edge. Green drew a walk to start the contest and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Davis before scoring on the bad toss by the third baseman on a ground ball off the bat of freshman
Makiya Graves.
The Tar Heels quickly rallied ahead with three runs in the home half of the first. North Carolina added four more runs in both the third and fourth innings to pull away to the 10-run triumph.
Sophomore Annie Kate Dalton paced the victors with two hits and four RBI, including a three-run double to finish off the scoring for the Tar Heels in the bottom of the fourth.
Freshman Kenna Raye Dark (1-0) picked up her first collegiate win, not allowing an earned run in the complete-game performance while striking out five.
NC Central (0-6) will next play five games in the Winthrop Garnet & Gold Tournament in Rock Hill, South Carolina, from Friday-Sunday, Feb. 24-26.
