Explosive Third Quarter Ignites NCCU WBB Win at Delaware State

DOVER, Del. – North Carolina Central University used an explosive third quarter to capture a 62-50 conference road win over Delaware State University on Saturday afternoon inside Memorial Hall in Dover, Delaware.

Delaware State (4-17, 2-8 MEAC) held a six-point advantage with 6:35 on the third-quarter clock when the Eagles ignited a 19-6 run to close out the quarter with a 44-37 lead. Junior guard Kimeira Burks caught fire with 10 points during the game-changing spurt, while Nia Ford started the scoring with back-to-back triples. 

NCCU (12-13, 6-4 MEAC) out-scored the Hornets 22-13 in the third quarter by shooting 54% from the field and making 4-of-9 from long distance.

The Eagles began the fourth frame with a 5-1 run to expand the lead to 49-38 at the 7:01 mark, and cruised to a 12-point triumph.

Burks finished with a game-high 17 points, shooting 6-of-12 from the field with a pair of 3-pointers and three free throws, to go along with three rebounds. Kira Lowery and Morgan Callahan recorded 12 points each with eight and seven boards, respectively, for NCCU. Aniya Finger grabbed a game-high nine rebounds to aid the Eagles in a 43-35 advantage on the glass.

NCCU has now won six of its last eight games, and will visit Maryland Eastern Shore on Monday, Feb. 20 at 5:30 p.m.
