NCCU Stumbles on the Road to PC

CLINTON, S.C. – Redshirt junior forward Morgan Callahan notched her second double-double of the season for visiting North Carolina Central University in a 76-58 road loss at Presbyterian College on Wednesday.

Callahan scored a season-high 18 points, which was one-point shy of her career high, and she led all players with 11 rebounds for her fourth career double-double. Callahan played all 40 minutes for an NC Central squad that only had seven active players available for the early matinee inside the Ross. E Templeton PE Center.

Freshman guard Kyla Bryant was the only other Eagle to reach double-digit points as she supplied the maroon and gray with 14 points.

Presbyterian (5-3) scored the first six points of the game and shot 68.8 percent from the field in the first quarter to jump out to a 27-14 advantage after one period of play. The Blue Hose maintained that 13-point edge, 41-28, at halftime before starting the second half on a 14-4 run to pull away. PC never trailed and maintained a double-digit cushion throughout the final three quarters to secure its third consecutive win.

The Blue Hose made eight 3-pointers on the day and finished the game shooting 50.8 percent from the floor. NCCU missed all 16 of its 3-point attempts.

Sophomore guard Tilda Sjökvist and sixth-year center Bryana Brady – both preseason All-Big South team honorees – highlighted play for the Blue Hose. Sjökvist made five 3-pointers on the way to a game-high 21 points while dishing out six assists. Brady made seven of her 10 field goal attempts in the process of chipping in 15 points and six rebounds.

All seven active Eagles scored with senior Kimeira Burks netting seven points, four steals and four rebounds. Junior Nijah Cunningham and freshman Jada Tiggett each tallied six points and Tiggett corralled six rebounds. Senior Tippy Robertson chipped in five points, four assists and three steals. Sophomore Ray'ven Robinson only scored two points, but had a team-high five steals while distributing three assists.

NC Central (3-4) will next play at Campbell University (Buies Creek, N.C.) on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m.
