NCCU’s Leone to Coach in NFLPA Collegiate Bowl

PASADENA, Calif. – North Carolina Central University offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Matt Leone was selected to coach in the 2023 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl on Saturday, Jan. 28, at the legendary Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California.

The 11th annual all-star showcase features a collection of the top senior prospects in college football as they put their skills on display in front of NFL scouts and a national television audience on NFL Network at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT.

Leone, who has been with NCCU since January 2020, will serve as the offensive coordinator of the American Team under head coach Jeff Fisher, who spent 22 seasons as an NFL head coach.

Under Leone's leadership, the 2022 MEAC and HBCU national champions shattered NCCU single-season offensive records, including points scored (463 points), first downs (273), and total offense (5,344 yards/445.3 ypg). NCCU led NCAA Division I-FCS in third down conversions (55.8%) and ranked fifth in the nation in scoring (38.6 points per game).

NCCU finished the historic campaign with a thrilling 41-34 overtime victory over No. 5 Jackson State University in the Cricket Celebration Bowl, becoming just the third team in school history to win 10 games in a season and earning the program's highest FCS national ranking at No. 17 in the final AFCA Coaches' Poll.
