NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina Central University freshman guard
Jerni Kiaku was named MEAC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season as announced by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference on Tuesday, Jan. 10.
Kiaku averaged 11.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.3 steals per game in a trio of games last week.
Kiaku began the week with 10 points, six assists, four rebounds and four steals in a record-setting victory over Virginia University of Lynchburg on Wednesday. At Morgan State on Saturday, Kiaku paced the Eagles with 14 points while adding four rebounds, two assists and one steal. Two days later at Coppin State, Kiaku tallied 10 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
For the week, Kiaku shot 57.1 percent from the field.
Kiaku leads the maroon and gray in scoring as a rookie and she ranks eighth in the conference with an average of 11.6 points per game. She also ranks fifth in the MEAC with 1.9 steals per game and 10th in the league with 2.1 assists per game.
The local Garner, North Carolina, resident has earned MEAC Rookie of the Week laurels on four occasions this season (Nov. 15, Nov. 29, Dec. 20 and Jan. 10).
NC Central women's basketball will next host South Carolina State University in its MEAC home opener on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 2 p.m.
