NCCU Concludes Campaign with Semifinals Loss to the Top Seed

CARY, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University men's tennis team was unable to knock off the defending champions as the Eagles lost a 4-0 semifinals match to top-seeded South Carolina State University in the semifinals of the 2022 MEAC Tennis Championships hosted by NCCU at the Cary Tennis Park on Friday.

The Bulldogs, who went undefeated in league play in the regular season at 5-0, won all completed matches to advance to the title game yet again. South Carolina State (11-9) – winners of 13 of the last 16 conference tournaments – will play second-seeded Morgan State University in the title game on Saturday at noon.

The Eagles ended their season with a 5-16 record, but NCCU's two All-MEAC honorees this season were both leading their final unfinished matches of the season. Senior Miles Clark had a 6-3, 4-1 lead at No. 1 singles and redshirt junior Sebastian Pino had a 7-5, 2-1 edge at No. 2 singles when SCSU secured the team triumph.

In the three completed singles matches, South Carolina State only lost one game. The Bulldogs started their day with 6-3 and 6-1 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively.

NC Central ended its season with its second appearance in the league semifinals in the past three MEAC tourneys.
