RALEIGH, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University men's tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss at No. 22 North Carolina State University on Saturday afternoon at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
Clark was the only player in NCCU's lineup to win a set.
The reigning MEAC Player of the Week, who already had two wins against players from the Atlantic Coast Conference, forced a superset tiebreaker at No. 1 singles after he won his second set.
However, senior Yannai Barkai was able to win the superset over Clark in his first dual-match singles action of the season to help preserve the Wolfpack team sweep.
NC State also blanked Presbyterian College, 7-0, on Saturday as the Wolfpack finished the day with a 6-2 overall record.
NCCU's singles lineup consisted of Clark (L, 6-4, 2-6, 10-5), senior No. 2
Amit Baran (L, 6-1, 6-1), senior No. 3
Sebastian Pino (L, 6-4, 6-3), freshman No. 4
Oliver Saarinen (L, 6-0, 6-3), sophomore No. 5
Shaka Cristellotti (L, 6-2, 6-3) and junior
LaQuon Gilchrist (L, 6-0, 6-1).
The Eagles were involved in a couple of close doubles matches. Clark and Baron were edged 7-5 in the top doubles match. Pino and Saarinen were involved in level 5-5 middle doubles bout that was stopped at that point because NC State secured the doubles team point with wins on the other two courts.
NC Central (0-6) continues its eight-game road swing to start the season with a match at Campbell University on Thursday at 2 p.m.
