ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Bulldogs of UNC Asheville remained undefeated on the season with a 7-0 non-conference victory over the North Carolina Central University men's tennis team inside the Asheville Racquet Club on Saturday afternoon.
UNCA (2-0) has not lost a singles match yet in the early stages of its season.
Playing for the Eagles were senior No. 1
Miles Clark (L, 6-3, 6-2), senior No. 2
Amit Baran (L, 6-1, 6-0), senior No. 3
Sebastian Pino (L, 7-6, 6-1), freshman No. 4
Oliver Saarinen (L, 7-5, 6-1), sophomore No. 5
Shaka Cristellotti (L, 6-1, 6-2) and junior No. 6
LaQuon Gilchrist (L, 6-1, 6-0).
Pino competed in the only set tiebreaker of the day, losing it 7-3 to senior Sirawit Daosaengsawang to conclude the first set of his match.
Prior to that, Pino and Saarinen were involved a tied 3-3 doubles match when that close battle was stopped once UNCA secured the doubles team point with matching 6-1 wins on courts one and three.
NC Central (0-3) is next scheduled to play at No. 10 Wake Forest University on Sunday, Feb. 6 at 5 p.m.
