DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University cross country teams began their season with 10^th-place performances at the "Friday Night Lights" Elon Opener, hosted by Elon University.
 
For the men, redshirt senior Juan Rodriguez finished 60^th with a 20:06.1 time. Freshman Alex Garcia and senior Joshua McLean placed in 84^th and 89^th with times of 21:24.7 and 22.12.0, respectively.
 
The NCCU women were led by junior Ariana Harrell, who finished the course in 16:53.0 to place 77^th. Freshman Elan Booker crossed the line with a time of 17:56.8 to earn 88^th place.
 
The Eagles return to action on Sept. 10 in the UNCW Beach Blast, hosted by UNC-Wilmington.
