DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University senior hurdler
Earl Green has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for May 2021 in recognition of his outstanding performance on the track and in the classroom.
Green broke NCCU's Division I record in the men's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 50.58 seconds during the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Championships on May 26 at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.
The MEAC bronze medalist's time is the fastest by an Eagle since NCCU reclassified to Division I in 2011.
Green had a couple of top-3 finishes during the outdoor season before racing to his record-setting time at the NCAA prelims.
The Greensboro, North Carolina, resident transferred to NCCU after earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration at UNC Wilmington. Green earned several conference medals for the Seahawks before transferring to NCCU to pursue a second bachelor's degree.
The music major boasts a 3.76 cumulative grade point average (GPA) in his first year at NCCU, including a 4.0 GPA during his spring track season. Green will compete one more season with the Eagles before earning his second degree in the spring of 2022. He has aspirations to compete professionally, work with his lawn care company part time and explore business ventures related to music and production. Green is a member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., and recently participated in "Brighter Meanings for Children of Haiti".
