Eagles Rally for Walk-Off Win against the Aggies

CARY, N.C. — With two-outs and two strikes in the bottom of the seventh, senior K'Lea Parks provided a two-run single to lift the North Carolina Central University softball team to a walk-off 3-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Southern Division victory over rival North Carolina A&T State University on Saturday morning at Thomas Brooks Park.

NCCU (6-28 Overall, 4-6) was in danger of being shut out after leaving eight runners on base over the first six innings. However, the Eagles were able to come through in their last chance.

Freshmen Lexus Brown and Hailey Batista started the seventh-inning rally with consecutive one-out walks. Senior Joirea Dumas then knocked in NCCU's first run with a single.

Dumas extended her hit streak to 11-games with that run-producing base knock.

Freshman starting pitcher S'Nyiah Stinson (4-10) then recorded her seventh strikeout to pull the Aggies within one out from victory before Parks was able to come up with her seeing-eyed single that bounced high past the shortstop and into the outfield, sending Batista and freshman pinch runner Christy Burroughs home for the game-tying and game-winning runs.

Parks and freshman Imara Harrell paced the victorious Eagles with two hits apiece. NCCU finished with a slight 7-6 hit edge over the Aggies.

N.C. A&T (9-25, 9-5) scored both of its runs in the first inning on three straight hits through the infield.

NCCU starting pitcher Kiara Hurley only allowed three more singles over her final six innings of work to earn her third win. Hurley (3-16) finished with just two strikeouts, but was efficient with just 87-pitches in her 19th complete game of the season.

NC Central has won its last seven games against N.C. A&T.
