CARY, N.C. — Bethune-Cookman University scored five runs in the first inning and then held host North Carolina Central University hitless in securing an 8-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Southern Division victory early Tuesday at Thomas Brooks Park.
Sophomore Alexis Bermudez – the reigning MEAC Rookie of the Year – tossed the run-ruled shortened no-hitter for the Wildcats. Bermudez (10-16) only issued two walks in her stellar performance that included a pair of strikeouts.
Sophomores
Caroline Campbell and
Kaitlyn Macon drew the two base on balls for the Lady Eagles. Junior
Dalika Wallace was the only other NCCU batter to reach base because of a fielding error by the third baseman in the first.
Freshman Kaira Cabato had the biggest hit of the day for the visitors, with a bases-clearing, 3-run double to cap BCU's early scoring in the first.
NC Central returns to action against MEAC foe Savannah State University with a doubleheader on Friday at 1 p.m.
