SAVANNAH, Ga. — Senior 
Gabriel Cucalon won the final match of the day in three sets to lift the North Carolina Central University men's tennis team to a 4-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Southern Division victory over Bethune-Cookman University on Sunday afternoon at the Bacon Park Tennis Club.
 
All six Eagles contributed to the conference victory with either singles or doubles wins as NCCU improved to 3-8 on the season and a perfect 2-0 in league play.
 
Freshman 
Christos Dagklis won in both singles and doubles for the maroon and gray.
 
The Eagles started the day by winning doubles.
 
Dagklis partnered with fellow rookie 
Thanos Spyropoulos for an easy 6-0 win. The Wildcats took the top doubles match before NCCU won the decisive battle on court two as junior 
Pablo Juez Torres and freshman 
Amit Baran prevailed 6-4.
 
Senior 
Sebastian Bromley doubled-up NCCU's lead to 2-0 with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 triumph at No. 6 singles.
 
The squads traded the next two points. After losing at No. 5, Dagklis earned 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 3 to put the Eagles within one point of clinching at 3-1.
 
The Wildcats fought back, taking each of the next three matches to three sets.
 
Bethune-Cookman (5-8, 1-1) squeaked out the first two extended battles that finished to level the match at 3-all. Freshman No. 2 Victor Castro held off Baran by a narrow margin of 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 before senior 2018 All-MEAC honoree Jose Plazas edged Spyropoulos on the fourth court by a tally of 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
 
Cucalon dropped his first set atop NCCU's lineup, but the two-time All-MEAC honoree was able to rally in the clinching match. Cucalon downed senior Victor Bravo 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 for his seventh straight win and give the Eagles the team victory.
 
NC Central next hosts UC Riverside in a non-conference dual on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
