Williams Makes Most of First Start in NCCU Loss at Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa – North Carolina Central University redshirt freshman guard Faith Williams tallied season-highs in points, rebounds and assists in her first college start during a 102-50 loss at Iowa on Saturday afternoon inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

A native of Akron, Ohio, Williams registered seven points, three rebounds, and a team-best five assists without committing a turnover. As a team, the Eagles matched a season-low with just 11 turnovers, half as many as Iowa's 22 miscues.

However, the host Hawkeyes blistered the nets by shooting 69.8 percent from the field (37 of 53), 59.1 percent from 3-point range (13 of 22), and 83.3 percent from the free-throw line (15 of 18).

NCCU (1-9) received team-highs of 10 points and seven rebounds from senior forward Paulina Afriyie, while sophomore forward Ashlyn Lockard and freshman guard Madalyn Anderson contributed eight points apiece.

Iowa (8-2) was paced by Makenzie Meyer with 19 points, as the guard shot 6-for-9 from the floor, including 4-for-6 from long distance.

Up next, NCCU hosts Washington Adventist on Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 5 p.m.
